What "elite" means at AquaSplash
The word “elite” gets used loosely in this industry. At AquaSplash it has a specific meaning: a swimmer who has cleared the Improver level, holds all four strokes with competition-legal technique, and is ready to train for time, not just for technique. Our competitive swim program is not a graduation badge from learn-to-swim. It is a separate, more demanding track with its own coaches, its own training week, and its own goal: producing swimmers who can compete credibly at state, national and, for the ones who keep climbing, international level.
To date the program has produced over twelve national-level swimmers. The work behind that number is not glamorous, and we do not pretend it is.
Periodisation in Plain Language
Competitive swimming training is not “swim more.” It is structured around blocks, each with a different purpose. A general year has a base phase that builds aerobic capacity and stroke volume, a build phase that adds speed and race pace work, a peak phase tapered toward target meets, and a recovery phase that protects the swimmer from burnout and injury. Your child’s training week is designed against where they sit in this cycle, not against a fixed weekly template that never changes. This is what separates real competitive swimming training from a club that just swims hard four times a week.Race exposure and competition
Squad swimmers compete. Internally, we run an annual AquaSplash competition that gives every Traveller and Challenger a controlled environment to race in. Externally, we enter swimmers in age-group meets, state competitions and, for those who qualify, national events. Race entries, travel logistics and meet preparation are coordinated by the coaching team. The competitive squad ladder
Our elite track sits on the top two rungs of the AquaSplash development ladder. Movement between them is performance-based.

Entry to the squad
Every swimmer joining the competitive swim track completes a 15 to 20 minute skill assessment (RM10) with our coaching team. The assessment evaluates technical readiness across all four strokes, basic endurance, and temperament under instruction. If your child is ready, we recommend the right starting squad. If they are close but not ready, we will tell you what to work on and where.
